As a preview for what's in store for the next two days, I'll be reviewing the three latest episodes of "The Legend of Korra" that weren't in the blog. They are "Old Wounds", "Original Airbenders", and "The Terror Within". Keep in mind that there are spoilers ahead, so make sure to watch the episodes first!
"Old Wounds" is a refreshing change to the string of mediocre episodes this season in "The Legend of Korra", because on of the biggest plot points is Lin's mysterious backstory finally being revealed, along with the origin of her scar. My favorite part of the episode is the ending, when Zaheer meditates while the rest of Team Anti-Avatar is debating about how to find Korra. Suddenly, Zaheer announces that Korra is with the Metal Clan. That really surprised especially because Zaheer is a new Airbender, and he did things that even Tenzin couldn't do in previous seasons. Aside from the cool side plot with Team Anti-Avatar, in Lin's flashbacks we see both her and Suyin as children and young adults. Lin has chosen to follow in Toph's footsteps, while Suyin has chosen quite the opposite. The best flashback is the last, when one day, Lin is chasing after burglars and she finds Suyin with them. Lin chooses to obey the law before helping family, and attempts arresting her, Suyin resists, whips her sister in the face, leaving a scar. Later, Toph escorts Suyin out of the city to find her own path, leaving me knowing why Lin is always against Suyin. Overall, "Old Wounds" was great an consistently entertaining.
"Original Airbenders" is like a break for "The Legend of Korra": instead of exploring the ongoing at the Metal Clan, we instead have an entire episode dedicated towards showing Tenzin training the new Airbenders they recruited. Unsurprisingly, Tenzin is failing to teach them as they are all discouraged by him. As a humane result, Tenzin asks his brother, Bumi, another new Airbender, for advice, and he tells him to use boot camp to train them. Unfortunately, that goes against Bumi because he is one of Tenzin's pupils, which was very funny. A side-plot is Kai being "a bad influence" on Jinora: he asks her why she doesn't have tattoo's, and encourages her to fly with him to a valley with baby bison. The mother of the bison attacks Kai, and they come back to the Air Temple. Later in the episode, Jinora and Kai go back to the valley finding out that there are hunters from Ba Sing Se capturing all the bison. Kai and Jinora are also captured, but Jinora manages to send a distress call, making all the Airbenders team up like never before to save the kids. Also, "Original Airbenders" was very funny in countless occasions: for example, when Tenzin quits training the new Airbenders and giving his job to his youngest son, Meelo. On the other hand, some moments weren't entertaining at all, like when Pema arrives to the temple to inform Tenzin that Zaheer has broken in and stolen a picture of a guru. Even with scenes like that, "Original Airbenders" manages to be a solid "The Legend of Korra" episode, but it's not at all between the best episodes of the series.
I can easily say that "The Terror Within" is the best "The Legend of Korra" episode to date, mainly because of the great action, twists, and character development. For me, the best part of the episode was when it was revealed that Aiwei helped Team Anti-Avatar infiltrate the Metal Clan. Speaking of the infiltration, a big chunk of "The Terror Within" is Team Anti-Avatar breaking in to the Metal Clan, attempting to kidnap Korra, leaving Su, Lin, Bolin, Mako, Su's children, and Opal to defend themselves and rescue the Avatar. The battle was very entertaining to watch, especially with all the eye candy of metal bending and P'Li's combustion bending. As an aftermath, Team Anti-Avatar manages to escape, leaving the Metal Clan questioning all of the guards. Aiwei interrogates them all, and finds one guard "lying". However, later, Korra, Bolin, Mako, and Asami break into his home and find a secret passage. They battle Aiwei, and find a door in the passage, leading to a room with a bomb, which explodes and leaves a hole. Aiwei escapes, leading to Lin questioning the safety of the Metal Clan, and then telling her that they are leaving soon. The only problem with "The Terror Within" is the rushed ending, but I can forgive that because of all of the amazing storytelling, twists, and action.
