Recently, I viewed a second time a video from the YouTube channel PhoneBuff where someone details ten features he thinks every smartphone should have. After some thought, I think I can compile a similar list of my own. Here it is:
Feature #1: Qi Wireless Charging
After an unfortunate experience I had with my phones charging port being broken, I had to settle with a dock. Since then, I really wanted my phone to support wireless charging, the same standard used on the Nexus smartphones and some Nokia Lumia's. Also, as the technology grows smaller, cheaper and faster, every OEM should have a Qi receiver in their smartphone.
Feature 2: Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0
I think many people have been in the situation where they have to hurry to school or work, but they forgot to charge their smartphone overnight. Personally, I've been in that situation multiple times. Luckily, companies like Qualcomm and Oppo have created technlogies that can charge your phone with enough battery percentage to last you throughout the day in thirty minutes. This can be a lifesaver for people who often forget things like me.
Feature #3: Passable Speakers
To me, many people think that smartphones can either have excellent speakers like on the new HTC One devices or terrible ones like on the Galaxy handsets. However, there needs to be something in the middle, where the speaker is loud and clear, but doesn't need to be quite as excellent as the HTC One M8 or as bad as the Galaxy S5. For me, the only phone that quite defines what I'm trying to say is the OnePlus One, with dual mono speakers on the bottom that are like I said, loud and clear. Every smartphone should have speakers like that, or better.
Feature #4: NFC Payments
The recently announced iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch (which all three I unfortunately did not cover) all have NFC, but not for pairing to Bluetooth speakers or quickly sharing links. Instead, the new Apple trio of products carry an NFC chip for easy and secure payments. This should be a standard on all smartphones of all budgets, as the technology is extremely convienent and cheap (just look at how much it costs to buy NFC tags).
Feature #5: Sapphire Displays
A breakthough I predict will happen in technology are the sapphire crystal displays, which are already on the newest iPhone's and rugged and/or high end Android smartphones. I think that instead of glass, OEM's should use sapphire only, not a coating, to make the smartphone prone to scratches and everyday drops. Personally, if my smartphone display had a sapphire layer instead of glass, I would be glad, since I would feel safe in not using a protective case and screen protector.
Those were five features I would want every smartphone should have, but I reckon other people have different opinions. That's why I'm challenging anyone reading to create their own list and email it to me! If you're interested, send your list to the email worstofweebly(at)gmail(dot)com. You can send me either text or a link.
